Daniel Hemric will drive an Xfinity Series car for Richard Childress Racing in 2017, the team announced Saturday.
It's the latest move by a Sprint Cup team to deepen its pool of developmental drivers. Friday, Stewart-Haas Racing said it hired Cole Custer as its first full-time Xfinity Series hand.

The announcement spurred speculation that Ty Dillon would get a full-time Cup ride next season with Childress. The organization has three teams, one driven by Austin Dillon into the Chase for the Sprint Cup that begins Sunday at Chicagoland Speedway.
