U.S. Olympic and Paralympic athletes and staff members traveling to Brazil in the coming months will be asked to participate in a study designed to improve understanding of the Zika virus.
The National Institutes of Health announced it will fund the effort led by Dr. Carrie L. Byington of the University of Utah, the chairperson of an infectious disease advisory group established by the U.S. Olympic Committee.

The study's aim is twofold: supplying up-to-date information about Zika to those traveling to Brazil over the next two months and studying the potential impact of the mosquito-borne virus on those who choose to participate.
