Report: Former Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda hospitalized

Former Los Angeles Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda has been hospitalized for an undisclosed illness, the Orange County Register reported on Saturday.

Details of Lasorda’s illness are being kept private, but a number of Lasorda’s former players have been among those in contact with Lasorda, who has been in the intensive care unit at Centinela Hospital in Los Angeles. Lasorda, 89, has a history of heart problems and was hospitalized following a heart attack as recently as 2012.

Lasorda replaced legendary Dodgers manager Walter Alston in 1976 and remained in the position through 1996.

He won 1,599 games, winning four NL pennants and two World Series, earning a spot in the Hall of Fame in 1997.
