The controversial ending to SummerSlam that left Randy Orton in need of ten staples to close a head wound opened up by Brock Lesnar led to some backstage friction at WWE, with wrestling veteran Chris Jericho reportedly shoving Lesnar when he returned to the locker room.
The former WWE champion landed several hard elbows on his opponent at the conclusion of their main event match and Jericho felt the blows went too far, according to reports from Wrestling Observer’s Dave MetlzerandPro Wrestling Insider’s Mike Johnson.
According to Johnson’s report, Jericho had not been aware that the brutal finish had been preplanned by the wrestlers and was upset with the MMA crossover star:
It was described to me by someone I spoke to that at that point, each of them them waited for the other to throw a first punch with Lesnar allegedly remarking that Jericho should either punch him or kiss him.
