Boston (AFP) - Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell said Friday that he has been diagnosed with stage-one lymphoma and will step away from the Major League Baseball squad to begin anti-cancer treatments.

Farrell, who guided the Red Sox to the 2013 World Series crown in his first season with Boston, will be replaced as manager for the remainder of the season by assistant coach Torey Lovullo.
