After a rollicking trip in homer-happy parks like Baltimore, Colorado and Philadelphia, the Mets were as confident as they had been in years when they returned to Citi Field on Friday. But so far, in two games back home, their offense has crash-landed with a pronounced thud.
On Saturday, the Mets were stifled by Boston’s Joe Kelly, 3-1, failing to produce anything in seven opportunities with runners in scoring position, twice with a runner on third base in the first two innings. After the Mets mashed an astounding 23 home runs in nine road games, Citi Field has been considerably less forgiving.
