Lions cornerback Rashean Mathis announced his retirement from the NFL in an interview with Lions.com Tuesday.
"It's been a long 13 years, a great 13 years. I think it's time for me to hang up the cleats," he said. "The Lord has blessed me with a long career and do great on and off the field, and inside the locker room. And I think it's time."
The 35-year-old is probably best known for his days in Jacksonville. He was a second-round pick by the Jaguars in 2003 and played with the team until 2012. He was named an All-Pro cornerback in 2006, a season in which he also made the Pro Bowl.
