But if we dig deep into the archives of baseball history, we learn that this is actually the best record since the 1890 Brooklyn Bridegrooms, who were 14-4 (.778) in one-run games en route to an overall 86-43 (.667) record and the National League pennant.

The Bridegrooms were known as the Grays before 1888 and the Atlantics in 1884, and would become the Grooms in 1891, again the Bridegrooms in 1896, the Superbas in 1899, the Dodgers in 1911, back to the Superbas in 1913, the Robins the following season in 1914, and then, finally, for good, the Dodgers in 1932.
