Rangers slugger Prince Fielder is expected to undergo surgery to repair a herniated disk in his neck and will miss the remainder of the season, the team announced Monday.
Fielder, 32, was placed on the disabled list last week as he considered options to deal with the nagging injury, which he'd only recently disclosed to team doctors. After examining the results from an MRI, Dr. Robert Watkins recommended surgery for a C4/C5 herniation in Fielder's neck.
A similar surgery prematurely ended Fielder's 2014 season.
The six-time All-Star has been mired in the worst season of his career.
