Getting a race in today at Talladega will be difficult. Rain and thunderstorms could make for a long day in NASCAR's Sprint Cup competition.
The Geico 500 is scheduled to start about 1 p.m. ET. On Sunday, NASCAR advanced the starting time to get more laps before raindrops arrive. It was cloudy about three hours before race time. But a thunderstorm before the green flag flies could mean big problems.
Talladega Superspeedway's size is a large part of the problem. The 2.66-mile track with its wide racing surface will require a fleet of drying machines and longer time to get the track ready.
