Racially insensitive tweets sent from account of Mariners’ Steve Clevenger

Racially insensitive tweets about Wednesday’s protests of police killings in Charlotte were sent from the account of Mariners catcher Steve Clevenger on Thursday, prompting the Mariners to release a statement.

It is unclear whether or not Clevenger wrote the posts, which refer to police shooting victim Keith Lamont Scott as a ‘thug’, mock athletes protesting during the national anthem and also lash out at the Black Lives Matter movement and president Barack Obama. The posts suggest those involved in the Charlotte protest “should be locked behind bars like animals.”

“Black people beating whites when a thug got shot holding a gun by a black officer haha shit cracks me up.
