CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Panthers fans and protesters alike mingled outside Bank of America Stadium on Sunday, as people continued to protest the police-related shooting death of Keith Lamont Scott.
Yet despite fear of further rioting, and a noticeably heavier police presence than usual, demonstrations throughout the day were nothing less than peaceful — even if they delivered a charged message.

For most of the day, the riot police stationed in teams of three around the perimeter of the stadium were idle. Fans — both black and white — stopped to thank them for being there.
