Ahead of the 141st Preakness Stakes, a handful of races will be run at Pimlico Race Course on Friday afternoon, headlined by the all-3-year-old filly Black-Eyed Susan. It's the female counterpart to the Preakness, just like the Kentucky Oaks to the Kentucky Derby and Acorn Stakes to the Belmont.
The Black-Eyed Susan is a 1 1/8-mile race for 3-year-old fillies with a $500,000 purse that's considered the second jewl of the female Triple Crown. The winner of the Kentucky Oaks doesn't always return for the Black-Eyed Susan, so it's not held in the same regard.
