The Cardinals’ recent seven-game losing streak cost their Opening Day third baseman his job (remember, their Opening Day left fielder already had been banished to Class A) and their third-base coach his job on Friday, but curiously didn’t cost manager Mike Matheny his job – yet.
Matheny, GM John Mozeliak and the players all expressed their disgust – shortstop Aledmys Diaz even used the word “ashamed” – at how the team has played recently and vowed to improve. Here are five places the Cardinals should start:
Failure to launch at leadoff
Newcomer Dexter Fowler has led off 48 times this season, though Matt Carpenter – last season’s leadoff man – has been atop the order the past three games.
