The Pirates say ace Gerrit Cole left Friday night's game against the Cardinals with right triceps tightness, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
His departure did not look good. After giving up a lead-off single to Matt Carpenter in the third inning, Cole called manager Clint Hurdle and a team trainer to the mound. After catcher Rick Cervelli and a couple of umpires joined the discussion, Cole left the mound without even attempting to throw another pitch. He had thrown only 35 pitches to that point and led 1-0.
The club reported Cole was being treated and is scheduled to be re-examined Saturday.
