Sebastien Bourdais was on the third lap of his qualifying run when things went wrong on Saturday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The rear end of his No. 18 Dale Coyne Racing Honda stepped out in Turn 2 and he overcorrected, slamming the outside SAFER barrier head-on.
Bourdais was awake, alert and never lost consciousness during the crash. He was extracted by the safety crew and placed on a backboard. He was then taken by ambulance to the local Indiana University Methodist Hospital, complaining of a pain in his leg.
