LAKE BUENA VISTA, (AP) — Sergio Santos scored in the 63rd minute and the Philadelphia Union overcame a quiet first half to advance to the quarterfinals of the MLS is Back tournament with a 1-0 victory over the New England Revolution on Saturday night.
The Union will play the winner of Sunday’s match between the Vancouver Whitecaps and Sporting Kansas City in a quarterfinal on Thursday.
“I think everyone’s excited for the quarterfinals. You can see we’re playing well together and fighting for everything,” said Union defender Jack Elliot. “There’s moments we could be cleaner in these games, and obviously there’s some other factors to that, but at the end of the day the fight within the team is always there, and I think at this point of the tournament and the conditions we’re facing, that’s a pretty important factor to winning games.
