After weeks of anticipation, Peyton Manning on Monday announced his retirement from the NFL after 18 seasons.
"There's just something about 18. Eighteen's a good number ... and today I retire from football," Manning said, a reference to his jersey number in an emotional farewell to football as he choked up at the podium in Denver.
The veteran quarterback will be remembered as one of the greatest in NFL history, though he endured his worst campaign as a pro this season as injuries seemed to catch up with him as he missed seven starts with a tear in the plantar fascia in his left foot.
