Pete Carroll will not return as head coach of the Seattle Seahawks next season but will remain with the franchise as an adviser, the team announced Wednesday.
“After thoughtful meetings and careful consideration for the best interest of the franchise, we have amicably agreed with Pete Carroll that his role will evolve from head coach to remain with the organization as an adviser,” Seahawks chair Jody Allen said in a statement released by the team.
Carroll just completed his 14th season with the Seahawks and guided the franchise to back-to-back Super Bowl appearances in 2013 and 2014, including a victory in Super Bowl XLVIII.
