Penn State kicker Joey Julius has become a fan favorite for both his uncommon size (5-10, 258 pounds) and unorthodox tackling form at his position. On Monday, Julius garnered national attention for admitting he missed spring and summer workouts after seeking treatment for an eating disorder.
Julius explained in a Facebook post that he entered McCallum Place, an eating disorder center in St. Louis, and underwent treatment there from May 9 to July 26. Julius says he now knows he suffered for more than a decade from "binge eating disorder." BED is an eating disorder "characterized by recurrent episodes of eating large quantities of food (often very quickly and to the point of discomfort)," according to the National Eating Disorder Association, and it affects one to five percent of the general population.
