SAN JOSE, Calif. — The Pittsburgh Penguins won their second Stanley Cup in eight years and fourth in franchise history Sunday night, defeating the San Jose Sharks, 3-1, to end their series after six games.
Brian Dumoulin scored in the first period for Pittsburgh, and San Jose’s Logan Couture tied the score in the second. But Kris Letang scored shortly after to put the Penguins back on top. Patric Hornqvist added an empty-net goal at 18:58 in the third.
Pittsburgh entered the playoffs as the No. 2 seed in the Metropolitan Division, defeating the Rangers, the Washington Capitals and the Tampa Bay Lightning en route to the title.
