NEWARK — Patrik Elias expects his wife and two young daughters to come to Prudential Center for the Devils’ season finale Saturday against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
“Just in case they want to see it,” he said Friday.
The game, Elias’s 1,240th appearance in a Devils uniform in the regular season, also could be his last. Elias, who turns 40 on Wednesday, will become an unrestricted free agent after the season. He has played in only 15 games this season because of a knee injury, scoring just one goal.
The Devils improved this season under John Hynes, their first-year coach, but for the fourth straight season, they will not qualify for the playoffs.
