American citizenship is a hot topic on the campaign trail, but one major leaguer is putting it on the sports pages as well.
The Baltimore Orioles' veteran pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez took the oath to become a United States citizen at a ceremony in Miami on Monday.
“Blessed for officially being part of this beautiful country,” Jimenez wrote in an Instagram post. He was pictured holding his citizenship certificate and an American flag alongside a replica of the Statue of Liberty.
The 32-year-old Dominican Republic native was signed as an international free agent when he was 17.
