ST. ANDREWS, Scotland
Imprinted on the inside of the leather cover of Jordan Spieth’s yardage book are words that have made a major impression on him.
“Do. Or do not. There is no try.”
The saying was popularized by the fictional character Yoda, who trained Luke Skywalker to fight against the forces of evil in the original “Star Wars” films. And it has become the rallying cry for Spieth, 21, as he battles the forces of history as golf’s latest star franchise.
The phrase packs a ton of profundity into eight simple words, and Spieth’s caddie, Michael Greller, is always in his ear reinforcing the message to be patient, fear nothing and focus on the moment.
