HAVEN, Wis. — On the par-5 11th hole in the final round of the 2015 P.G.A. Championship, Jordan Spieth walked to his tee shot thinking he might be approaching a pivotal moment in his quest to win three major championships in one year.
Desperate to catch Jason Day, who was both leading the tournament on Sunday and charging aggressively, Spieth had struck his drive 302 yards and thought that Day might still have a dicey second shot to the green.
“Then I got down there and saw where Jason’s ball was,” Spieth said, referring to the missile that Day had sent 382 yards down the fairway.
