The weakness of the decathlon as an event has always been its incomprehensible scoring system, which robs viewers of any real investment in the competition. NBC has been the broadcaster of record for the Olympics since 1988, and still the network treats field events like a nuisance, as if they’d prefer to show you another episode of Sean Saves The World.
