N.Y.C.F.C.’s Patrick Vieira Acknowledges ‘Long Learning Process’

Patrick Vieira folded his large frame, every bit as robust as when he patrolled the midfield for Arsenal and France, into a chair deep inside Yankee Stadium. Vieira, the Senegalese-born World Cup winner, was being introduced as New York City F.C.’s second head coach Wednesday, and so he dutifully answered question after question about players whom he is still meeting and a league, Major League Soccer, that he is still learning.

“Here, it’s completely different,” Vieira said of M.L.S., acknowledging that he would need to rely, at least initially, on front-office executives like the team’s sporting director, Claudio Reyna, “to explain more in detail about the rules in this country.
