NWSL champions Western New York Flash relocate to North Carolina

Fresh off winning the 2016 National Women’s Soccer League championship, the Western New York Flash are heading south.

North Carolina Football Club announced on Monday it has purchased the Rochester-based club and will relocate it to the Raleigh suburb of Cary. The club will be renamed the North Carolina Courage.

“We are excited to be able to bring the highest level of professional women’s soccer back to the Triangle,” North Carolina Football Club owner Steve Malik said in a club statement.
