US golfer Dustin Johnson lines up his putt on the 11th green at St Andrews in Scotland, on July 16, 2015

St Andrews (United Kingdom) (AFP) - A month on from his three-putt finish to the US Open at Chambers Bay, Dustin Johnson proved on Thursday at St Andrews that he had quickly got over one of the biggest last-hole letdowns in recent times.

His first round of 65 at the Open Championships gave him the lead in the clubhouse and, with conditions worsening out on the Old Course, he had every chance of still being there at the end of the day.
