NLCS 2016: Cubs punch ticket to World Series; franchise's first trip since 1945

CHICAGO — One historical barrier down, one to go for the 2016 Cubs.

The Cubs are going to the World Series. The Cubs are going to the World Series? The Cubs are going to the World Series!

And what a World Series this will be. The franchise that hasn’t won the championship since 1908 and hadn’t even been to the final round since 1945 is facing a Cleveland franchise that hasn’t won the World Series since 1948. As Samuel L. Jackson’s character in "Jurassic Park" famously said, “Hold onto your butts.”

For one of the most dramatic events in Cubs history, the actual game, a 5-0 win for the home team in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series, was rather anticlimactic.
