NEW YORK — With the Giants set to begin pursuit of their fourth world championship in seven years, taking on the Mets in Wednesday’s wild card game, San Francisco ace Madison Bumgarner was asked what is the most important thing for the battle of the past two National League pennant winners.
“We have to find a way to score more runs than they do,” Bumgarner said.
History shows that Bumgarner is correct.
Since Major League Baseball put in the one-game wild card playoff in 2012, all eight contests have been won by the team scoring more runs.
