CHICAGO — As Patrick Kane emerged from behind a black cloth curtain and within view of a battery of cellphone cameras — some extended beyond arm’s length by selfie sticks — shreds of white, black and red confetti fired from a small silver cannon blew toward him in the fall evening air.
Kane wore a dark fitted suit, his tie held in place by a silver clip, his receding blond hair slicked back. Walking out to raucous cheers, Kane made his way through the crowd that lined Madison Street outside United Center, slapping hands with youngsters who had made their way to the red carpet that he strode down on Wednesday.
