N.H.L. Roundup: Red Wings Give Forward 7-Year Contract Extension

The Red Wings signed forward Justin Abdelkader to a seven-year contract extension worth nearly $30 million on Thursday, allowing Detroit to keep him off the free-agent market next summer.

Abdelkader, 28, was drafted by Detroit in the second round of the 2005 N.H.L. draft.

He has four goals and seven points this season. He scored 23 goals last season, more than doubling his previous high of 10 goals in a season, and he had 44 assists, which was also a career high. He has 65 goals and 74 assists in 413 games since 2008, when he made his debut in the league.
