Toronto Maple Leafs Coach Mike Babcock was appointed Thursday as the coach of the Canadian national team for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.
Babcock led Canada to back-to-back Olympic gold medals in Vancouver in 2010 and at the Sochi Games in 2014. The World Cup tournament will be held from Sept. 17 to Oct. 1, with all games to be played at the Leafs’ home, Air Canada Centre.
Claude Julien of the Boston Bruins, Joel Quenneville of the Chicago Blackhawks, Barry Trotz of the Washington Capitals and Bill Peters of the Carolina Hurricanes will work under Babcock.
