Following a domestic violence case involving former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice in 2014, the NFL implemented new procedures to handle player arrests.
The policies paid off over the last decade, as the NFL said player arrests for all types of offenses have gone down "by half" since the Rice case, per ESPN's Xuan Thai.
According to figures provided by the NFL, there were 74 player arrests in 2011 and 68 in 2014, but that number was down to 38 in 2023. However, there were 11 cases of domestic violence reported to the league last year compared to eight in both 2014 and 2015, with figures ranging from three to nine incidents in the other years.
