Carl Haas, founder of one of the United States' most famous motorsport teams, has died at the age of 86 following a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
A statement on Carl Haas Automobile Imports' website revealed the legendary team owner died on June 29.

"Carl Haas' incredible journey came to a peaceful end on June 29, 2016, at his home that he loved, surrounded by family," the statement read. "Carl will be greatly missed by all those lives he touched."
Haas, who began as a race driver in the 1950s, shot to fame three decades later after teaming up with famed American actor Paul Newman, who died in 2008, in a partnership that delivered eight Champ Car drivers' championships.
