Eddie Howe has warned the rest of English football that Newcastle United’s first domestic trophy for 70 years has only made them hungry for more success.

Howe is the first manager since Joe Harvey in 1969 to win a major piece of silverware with 24 of his predecessors trying and failing to end the most infamous trophy drought in English football.

“We are desperate for more,” said a visibly emotional Howe in front of around 150,000 fans. “When you have had a taste of something like this, it makes you hungry for more and that is how we all feel at the moment.
