North Queensland Cowboys star Jason Taumalolo is heading to the United States in a quest to become the latest National Rugby League star to pursue an NFL career.
The New Zealand international received the Cowboys' backing after a loss to Australia in the Four Nations final on Sunday.
Taumalolo would be the latest to swap NRL for NFL, with Gold Coast Titans star Jarryd Hayne having made the San Francisco 49ers' 53-man roster in 2015 before being released. The Cowboys confirmed news of the 23-year-old Taumalolo's trial early Monday.
"Jason Taumalolo heading to US for NFL testing with club's full knowledge and backing," the club tweeted.
