The Giants have released kicker Josh Brown, the team announced on Tuesday.
“We believed we did the right thing at every juncture of our relationship with Josh,” team president John Mara said in statement. “Our beliefs, our judgments and our decisions were misguided. We accept that responsibility.”
Brown was held out of Sunday’s game after he admitted to being abusive toward his wife, Molly, in documents released Wednesday to the media. The kicker was suspended for the first game of this season for violating a protective order against his wife in 2015.
He was placed on the commissioner’s exempt list on Friday.
