North Carolina's controversial House Bill 2 has now cost the state more sporting events in addition to the 2017 NBA All-Star Game.
The NCAA announced Monday it will relocate all seven previously awarded championship events from North Carolina during the 2016-17 academic year, including the first- and second-round games of the Division I men's basketball tournament scheduled for Greensboro in March.
The NCAA Board of Governors declared HB2 limits civil rights protections and does not promote an inclusive atmosphere for all college athletes, coaches, administrators and fans.
"Fairness is about more than the opportunity to participate in college sports, or even compete for championships,” NCAA president Mark Emmert said.
