College football replay officials will be able to stop games for targeting fouls that were not called by officials on the field if a measure approved by an NCAA rules committee Thursday is enacted for 2016.
The committee, chaired by South Dakota coach Bob Nielson, approved a handful of proposed changes that focused mainly on player safety issues. Those measures will be forwarded to the Playing Rules Oversight Panel for a March 8 vote that would finalize the rules for next season.

Any changes to the targeting rule are sure to draw attention given the controversy it has engendered since being implemented in 2013.
