NCAA prohibits new bowl games for three years, report says

The NCAA has approved a three-year moratorium for new bowl games, ESPN.com reported Monday.

Austin, Texas, Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Charleston, S.C., each were in the process of adding bowl games for the 2016 season.

A three-year moratorium was also approved in 2011. Six new bowl games were added in the two seasons following the ban. Last season, there were not enough bowl-eligible teams to fill the 41 bowl games, forcing the addition of three 5-7 teams (Minnesota, Nebraska, San Jose State) to the mix.
