Better late than never. It took 33 years, but N.C. State's 1983 NCAA championship basketball team finally got its White House visit on Monday.
"Although it took a little while, we are very gracious," Dereck Whittenburg, a senior on the "Cardiac Pack" team, told reporters outside the White House.
N.C. State's 1983 team is one of the best Cinderella stories in NCAA Tournament history. The sixth-seeded Wolfpack stunned Houston's famed Phi Slamma Jamma team, a prohibitive favorite, when Lorenzo Charles dunked at the buzzer off a Whittenburg miss for a 54-52 win in the championship game.
