North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory was a passenger in a vehicle involved in an accident Sunday night after Super Bowl 50 in California.
An official from the governor's office confirmed that he was in the accident at approximately 8 p.m. PT in Santa Clara following the Panthers' loss to the Broncos, WCNC.com reported.

After the accident — in which the governor's California Highway Patrol vehicle was totaled, his press secretary told The Associated Press — the governor released the following statement:
“We were very fortunate, and while I am still proud of the Carolina Panthers, this puts the game in proper perspective.
