With Michael Phelps looking to add to his record medal haul, NBC Sports is betting swimming will be one of the top story lines at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. NBC is putting Michele Tafoya, its top NFL sideline reporter, on swimming coverage at the Olympics for the first time, Sporting News has learned.
The two-time Emmy winner will join golf commentator Dan Hicks and three-time U.S. Olympic gold medalist Rowdy Gaines as they cover Phelps, Katie Ledecky, Ryan Lochte, Missy Franklin and other top swimmers in Rio. This will will the fourth time Tafoya has worked the Olympics — but the first time she's covered swimming.
