Washington Nationals starting pitcher Max Scherzer threw his second no-hitter of the 2015 season on Saturday in a 2–0 win over the New York Mets.
Scherzer becomes just the fifth player in major league history to throw two no-hitters in the same season, joining Johnny Vander Meer, Allie Reynolds, Virgil Trucks and Nolan Ryan, who last accomplished the feat in 1973.
Scherzer struck out 17 batters over his nine hitless innings. His only blemish came in the bottom of the sixth inning, when Yunel Escobar’s throwing error allowed catcher Kevin Plawecki to reach base.
