Nationals 8, Yankees 6: Even Cleanshaven Faces Cannot Help Yankees Stop Their Slide

WASHINGTON — The Yankees arrived at Nationals Park on Tuesday feeling refreshed after a much-needed day off and appearing somewhat youthful.

The mustaches that had sprouted uncertainly last month on many of the Yankees, coinciding with the start of an unexpected hot stretch, had mostly disappeared.

Given that they had lost five of their previous six games, with their American League East lead reduced to a single game, it was not surprising that the mustaches had to go.

“There was never a mandate that they were going to stay,” third baseman Chase Headley said.
