The NASCAR community on Monday extended its condolences to the family of motorcycle racer Nicky Hayden, 35, who died five days after being hit by a car while training on his bicycle in Italy.
The Maurizio Bufalini Hospital in Cesena, Italy, announced Hayden’s death after last week saying he had severe cerebral damage and multiple traumatic injuries from a crash on the Rimini coast last Wednesday.
Hayden won the MotoGP title in 2006 and this year was 13th in this season's Superbike standings, riding for the Red Bull Honda team. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
