I hope the egos of Fox Sports' Darrell Waltrip and Larry McReynolds can handle being relegated to supporting players. Because make no mistake: Jeff Gordon is now in the driver's seat after his star turn during Fox's coverage of the Daytona 500.
Working his first big race telecast, the 44-year old Gordon was smart, sharp and entertaining during Fox's coverage of The Great American Race Sunday. Having just retired from racing, the four-time Sprint Cup champion is more knowledgeable about what goes through the minds of today's drivers than the 69-year old Waltrip, who retired in 2000.
