A popular hunting and fishing film company out of Montana made headlines in its home state after receiving 38 state citations and 11 federal citations. The citations stem from a fly flshing trip the company, Montana Wild, filmed in the Bob Marshall Wilderness in 2013.
Among the charges were violations of federal regulations for filming in a wilderness area without a permit, fishing for bull trout in closed rivers and mishandling of wildlife. (The full press release from Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks can be found here.)
Perhaps the most disturbing of the citations relates to how the company handled fish:
"(T)he fishing violations that took place on the South Fork Flathead River and its tributaries could have devastating impacts on the bull trout populations based on the over handling issue in which some fish were handled for up to 12 minutes or longer after they were in the net.
